Welcome to Pearl River Community College Libraries Orientation web page. Below you will find the links to orientations for various resources that are provided by the Libraries. The links on the left will provide you with additional information about the Libraries. Also the databases menu item provides links to all of the databases described here. The Library encourages all patrons to use their RiverGuide account to access all databases under the Library tab. Online Library Catalog

To locate materials (books, magazines and journals, audiovisual materials, and computer programs) through the online library catalog:

  • Click on the Library Catalog link.
  • Type in your search.
  • Click on the drop down arrow located to the right of the search box to choose the appropriate search option.
  • Click on search button.

Example:

Words or Phrases - Primary and secondary sources
Author - Work by a specific author (ex. Steinbeck, John)
Title - Specific title (ex. The Grapes of Wrath)
Subject - Information about something (ex. Freedom of Speech)
Series - Specific series (ex. Modern Critical Interpretations)
Periodical Title - Specific journal or magazine (ex. Discover, Journal of Psychology, Time)
Once you have clicked on the appropriate search option your search results page should appear. This screen will tell you how many items were found for your search.

  • Click on the title of the item to see the item's record. This screen will include bibliographic information for the item. At the bottom of the screen is the location information, Garvin H. Johnston Library, Forrest County Center Library, or Hancock Center Library, how many copies of the item each campus has and the location within the library.

    Students must have a valid PRCC ID in order to check out materials at any Pearl River Community College Library.

    eBook Collection by EBSCOhost

    To locate electronic books that can be read online:

  • Click on EBSCOhost eBook Collection.
  • Type in User Name and Password. (User name and Password located in RiverGuide under the Library tab)
  • The next screen is the search screen.
  • Type in search; title of book, author, a subject, etc.
  • Click the search button.
  • The next screen is a list of books the database retrieved according to the search.
  • Scroll through the list to find desired item/items.
  • Click on eBook Full Text or Download in order to read the book.

  • eBook Collection provided by ebrary

    To locate electronic books that can be read online:

  • Click on eBook Collection provided by ebrary.
  • Type in your PRCC ID number.
  • The next screen is the search screen.
  • Type in search: title, author, subject, etc.
  • The next screen will give a list of books the database retrieved according to the search.
  • Click on the ebrary Reader or the Download button to read the book.

    The Magnolia Project

    The Magnolia Project, Mississippi'’s statewide consortium, is funded by the Mississippi Legislature. MAGNOLIA provides online databases for publicly funded K-12 schools, public libraries, community college libraries, and university libraries in Mississippi. MAGNOLIA is the gateway to multiple subject discipline databases that is searchable at once. These databases will locate journal, magazine, newspaper articles, etc.

  • Click on MAGNOLIA provided by EBSCOhost.
  • Click on the Full A-Z List on the left side of the screen that best fits your subject. (ex. Academic Search Elite-this is the most useful to the majority of college students)
  • Type in the User ID: (User ID located in RiverGuide under the Library tab)
  • Again click on the database or databases from the list on the left side of the screen that best fits your subject. (ex. Academic Search Elite-this is the most useful to the majority of college students)
  • The next screen is the search screen, type in subject. To retrieve the full text articles, make sure that a check mark is in the Full Text box. If this box is not checked, the database will pull up abstracts of articles. To obtain professional, scholarly (peer reviewed) journals, make sure a check mark is in the scholarly (peer reviewed) journals box. After typing in your search and placing check marks in boxes, click on search to retrieve hits.

    Note: Help on refining or broadening the search is available on each screen.

  • The next screen is a list of articles the database retrieved according to the search. Click on the HTML Full Text or PDF Full Text links to see the full article.

    Humanities International Complete provided by EBSCOhost Humanities International Complete searches through the Humanities Index to locate articles.

  • Click on Humanities International Complete.
  • Type in User ID and Password: (User ID and Password located in RiverGuide under the Library tab)
  • Next screen is the search screen.
  • Type in search.
  • Choose limiters as needed.
  • Click search.
  • Next screen is a list of articles the database retrieved according to the search.

    CINAHL Complete searches through the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature to locate articles.

  • Click on the CINAHL Complete provided by EBSCOhost.
  • Type in User ID and Password (User ID and Password located in RiverGuide under the Library tab).

  • Choose limiters as needed.

  • Click on Films of Demand.

    MELO

    MELO (Mississippi Electronic Libraries Online) is an electronic environment that mirrors the traditional library through online databases, electronic books and journals, and scholarly websites. It strives to collect, store and organize information on a broad range of subjects. By encouraging cooperative efforts of the Mississippi Community Colleges and by promoting economic delivery of information, MELO supports the needs and interests of students and faculty. Content for the collection is examined for its currency, usefulness and relevancy within the scope of appropriate academic materials. Selection considerations include appearance as to design, content, authority, and ease of accessibility.

  • Click on the MELO link.
  • Place cursor on the Resources link at the top of the page.
  • A drop-down menu will appear.
  • Choose appropriate link.

  • Flipster by EBSCO Popular Magazines

  • Click on the Flipster link.
  • Browsing can be done by clicking the arrows on the left or right of the magazine images. Search by title in the search box or browse by category on the left.
  • Click directly on the magazine image to view the magazine.
  • The magazine will open. Browse through the magazine by clicking on the arrows on the right.

    PRCC Digitized Annuals and Catalogs A collection of numerous annuals and catalogs from the past up to 2012.

  • Click on the PRCC Digitized Annuals and Catalogs link.
  • All of the PRCC Annuals will be listed that is in the Internet Archive.
  • Use the bar at the top to rearrange the list as needed.
  • Click the link of the desired annual.
  • The annual will open up.
  • Click on the pages to browse through the annual or on the magnifying glass to enlarge the page.
