Two PRCC students selected as semifinalists for Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship

POPLARVILLE, Miss. — The list of semifinalists for the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship has been released and two students at Pearl River Community College have made the cut. Hanna Lambert and Shui Lin, both students at the Forrest County Campus, are this year’s semifinalists from PRCC. 

Farris, Loper receive $1500 Kohler scholarships

Pearl River Community College students Sungjin Farris and Joshua Loper have been awarded $1500 Kohler Manufacturing ready-to-work scholarships this semester.

Farris, 20, and Loper, 25, are sophomores majoring in Electronics/Industrial Technology at the Forrest County Campus. Farris attended Oak Grove High School and Loper attended Purvis High School.

Farris said he wants to be an electronics technician by trade. He is a member of the National Technical Honors Society. 

 “I was surprised, honored and grateful for receiving this scholarship,” he said.

Bush, Greer receive $500 machine shop scholarships

Pearl River Community College students Thomas Bush and Mitchell Greer have been awarded $500 Harry Cole Machine Shop Scholarships this semester.

Bush, 18, and Greer, 20, are freshmen majoring in Precision Machining Manufacturing at the Forrest County Campus. They are from Purvis and attended Purvis High School.

“Both students have the desire and drive to take a lot from this program and help them in their future careers,” said Robby Shaw, Precision Manufacturing and Machine Technology instructor.

Ruckel, Donohue set to continue tradition of excellence for Honors Institute at PRCC

Dr. Ryan Ruckel and Dr. Doug Donohue have been named new deans of Pearl River Community College’s Dr. William Lewis Honors Institute at the Forrest County Campus in Hattiesburg. 

Dr. Ruckel will serve as the second Dean of the Honors Institute. Dr. Donohue will serve as the Associate Dean.

They will work collaboratively across all PRCC campuses to plan joint opportunities for Honors students.

Respiratory Care Technology December 2021 Graduation at Forrest County Campus

Graduates of the Respiratory Care Technology program at Pearl River Community College's Forrest County Campus received their diplomas and pins during a ceremony on Dec. 2 at the Forrest County Campus in Hattiesburg. PTK inductions at Forrest County Campus for Fall 2021

New members of the Beta Tau Gamma chapter of Phi Theta Kappa international honor society were inducted Monday, Nov. 8, at the Forrest County Campus of Pearl River Community College.

National Technical Honor Society at Forrest County Campus Fall 2021 Induction

The National Technical Honor Society at Pearl River Community College’s Forrest County Campus held its fall induction ceremony Monday, Nov. 1 in the multi-purpose room in Hattiesburg. 

PRCC launches Honors Lecture Series at Forrest County Campus

Pearl River Community College’s Dr. William Lewis Honors Institute launched its Faculty Lecture Series Thursday at the Forrest County Campus.

Faculty and students attended the lecture, presented by Dr. John McEwen, Instructor of Math, Physics and Chemistry at the Forrest County Campus.

Dr. McEwen’s topic: “My Appointment with the TicToc Doc: The Impact of Unlicensed Physicians in the Social Media Age.”

Dr. McEwen was introduced by sophomore Patrick Dunkle of Petal, a member of the Honors Council.

This instructor and his class go above and beyond for a fellow instructor

Jason Pitts, Pearl River Community College’s welding instructor at the Forrest County Campus, has known fellow instructor Sam McNease since their childhood days.

McNease, Electronics Technology instructor at the FCC, has not only had to face the challenges of conducting class during the pandemic, but she also had a disability that requires her to teach class from a wheelchair.
