Pearl River Community College had a successful home debut in men’s soccer Saturday afternoon, defeating Itawamba 3-0 behind a strong second half.
The Wildcats (2-0) broke a scoreless tie at 55:51 when freshman Jevaun Ennis (Maypen, Jamaica) took a pass from sophomore Mark Johnson (Bay St. Louis) and beat Indians goalkeeper Brandon White in the far right corner.
Less than two minutes later, at 57:26, the Wildcats scored again as Johnson and sophomore Jackson Turner (Leakesville) assisted freshman Bo Bowman (Bay St. Louis) on his second goal of the season.
Pearl River added an insurance goal at 70:37 when redshirt sophomore Parker Rose (Bay St. Louis) scored off a feed from Turner. Sophomore Kobe Lie (Hattiesburg) had 10 saves for his first career shutout in goal for the Wildcats.
PRCC played with a man advantage for most of the game after Itawamba’s John Gonzales was issued a red card for a flagrant takedown at 15:33.
PRCC will be back in action next Friday, hosting Meridian in the South Division opener. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be livestreamed on prccmedia.com.
