Wildcats' rally falls short in 4-3 loss at Meridian

The Pearl River men kept battling back, but were ultimately unable to overcome Meridian in a  4-3 South Division defeat on the road.

The Wildcats (3-3 overall, 2-2 division) fell behind when Meridian (5-1, 3-1) scored two goals in a two-minute span midway through the first half.

PRCC got one goal back in the 38th minute on a score by Jackson Turner (Leakesville), assisted by Mark Johnson (Bay St. Louis), but the Eagles made it 3-1 in the 59th minute. Anthony Hertzke’s (Lucedale) goal in the 68th minute narrowed the margin again, with West Zimmerman (Bay St. Louis) assisting.

But Meridian scored what would prove to be the difference just a minute late to regain the two-goal advantage. Tyler Polderman (Picayune) made it 4-3 in the 80th minute, on an assist by Junior Sanchez (Hattiesburg), but the Wildcats were unable to tie it up in the remaining time.

Both PRCC soccer teams return home Friday for the soccer version of the Cat Fight against Jones County. Kickoff for the men's game is scheduled for 7 p.m. The game will be shown live via webstream on prccmedia.com, which can be accessed through prcc.edu.
