Wildcats advance to region tournament with 13-0 win over Itawamba

colby whitesimon landryPearl River Community College is advancing to the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament after defeating Itawamba 13-0 in the third and deciding game of the best-of-three game first-round playoff series at Fulton.

The Indians forced the deciding game by winning Game 2 of the series earlier Friday 7-1.

The six-team region tournament begins on Wednesday at Ellisville. PRCC will carry a 27-18 record into the regional. ICC ended its season 31-16.

Freshman right-hander Colby White (5-2) tossed a one-hitter, striking out seven, and he was backed by a 10-hit attack. Itawamba did not get a hit until two were out in the fifth and final inning.

Pearl River scored four runs in the top of the first inning, two coming on Simon Landry’s two-run double, and kept the pressure on, scoring two runs in the second and four runs in the third to put the 10-run rule into effect, then added three insurance runs in the fourth.

Sophomore Lucas Scott had a run-scoring triple, and redshirt freshman Bryson Medious and sophomore Noah Nicaud each had doubles for the Wildcats.

In the first game Friday, PRCC could muster little offense against Itawamba ace pitcher J.T. Salter, who struck out 10 Wildcat batters, and the Indians made a four-run first inning stand up.

PRCC had just two singles in the game, both singles. Lucas Scott had a leadoff single in the fifth and Simon Landry had a two-out single in the ninth. Pearl River scored its only run in the fourth without a hit.

Itawamba took advantage of early control problems by Wildcat starter Camden Dusang (4-3), and a key error for a four run rally. The Indians added a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh.
