PRCC soccer squads sweep past Meridian to remain undefeated

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College remained undefeated on the soccer field after sweeping a pair of matches against Meridian Tuesday at the PRCC Sports Complex.
 
The Lady Wildcats scored four goals in an 18-minute span of the first half, and rolled to a 6-1 victory, and the men followed suit with a workmanlike 3-0 win over the Eagles.
 
Both PRCC teams improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the South Division; Meridian’s women dropped to 1-3-1 and 0-2, while the men fell to 1-4 and 0-2.
 

Wildcats rally to beat Gulf Coast 2-1; Lady Wildcats win big 4-0

POPLARVILLE – Romar Smith was in the right place at the right time for the Pearl River men Friday night in MACJC soccer action at the PRCC.
 
Smith’s header off a corner kick by Cole Wooten with 6:11 to play in the game gave the Wildcats a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Gulf Coast in a rematch of last season’s thrilling MACJC State Tournament championship game.
 
PRCC, the defending state champions, remained undefeated at 3-0; Gulf Coast dropped to 2-2. It was the South Division opener for both teams.
 

PRCC soccer opens home schedule Friday against Gulf Coast

POPLARVILLE – After opening the 2015 season with a double dose of victory in two road games, Pearl River makes its home soccer debut Friday with a pair of games against Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Kickoff at the PRCC Athletic Complex for the women’s game is set for 5 p.m., with the men’s game scheduled for approximately 7 p.m.

“It will be nice to finally play at home,” said Lady Wildcats coach Jack Byrd.

Lee’s hat trick powers Lady Wildcats to 7-0 victory over Hinds

POPLARVILLE – Sophomore Lyndsey Lee recorded a hat trick, scoring three goals as Pearl River Community College rolled over Hinds 7-0 in women’s soccer action Tuesday night at Raymond.

The Lady Wildcats, now 2-0, dominated the Lady Eagles from start to finish, as Lee opened the scoring early in the game with a goal on an assist from Delaney Gustafson.

Lady Wildcats cruise past Holmes 6-0 in soccer season opener

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River’s women opened their 2015 season on a successful note Friday afternoon, scoring a 6-0 victory over Holmes in soccer action at Freedom Ridge Park in Ridgeland.

Freshman Kira Morrell of Laurel had two second-half goals as the Lady Wildcats pulled away from the punchless Lady Bulldogs (1-1).

PRCC started slow, but picked it up late in the first half with a pair of goals two minutes apart. Sarah Fortenberry got the first goal of the season by knocking in the rebound on a shot off the crossbar by Hailey Furlan.

PRCC set to open 2015 season at Holmes

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College’s soccer regular season will get underway for real this weekend with a pair of games against Holmes Community College.

The Wildcats will battle the Bulldogs at 4 p.m. Thursday, with the Lady Wildcats facing the Lady Bulldogs at 2 p.m. Friday. Both games will be played at Freedom Ridge Park near the HCC campus in Ridgeland.

PRCC’s men dropped a 3-0 decision in an exhibition contest on Aug. 15 at William Carey University in their only action so far this year.

PRCC soccer openers at Itawamba postponed

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College’s soccer regular-season opening games scheduled for Friday at Itawamba have been postponed because of the threat of inclement weather in the Fulton area.

The MACJC doubleheader has been rescheduled to Sunday, Sept. 27 at 2 p.m. for the women and 4 p.m. for the men.

The Lady Wildcats will now open their season with an exhibition game at 5 p.m. Tuesday against William Carey University in Hattiesburg. Both teams will then play at Holmes, but on separate days, the men at 4 p.m. Thursday and the women at 2 p.m. Friday.

PRCC soccer teams open 2015 season at Itawamba

POPLARVILLE – The 2015-16 athletic year at Pearl River Community College officially begins on Friday, as the school’s soccer teams open the regular season with a doubleheader against Itawamba.

Kickoff at Fulton is set for 2 p.m. for the women, with the men’s game scheduled for 4 p.m.

Both the Wildcats and the Lady Wildcats are coming off championship seasons, as both squads captured the MACJC/Region 23 championships in 2014. Both teams also posted a record of 12-5-1 overall.

2015 Women's Soccer Preview

POPLARVILLE – The Pearl River Community College women started slow, but finished fast last season.
 
Once a talented group of freshmen began to mesh with the sophomores on the squad, the Lady Wildcats rolled down the stretch.
 
PRCC finished second in the South Division, then defeated previously-undefeated Jones County in the MACJC Tournament semifinals, before knocking off Mississippi Gulf Coast for the 2014 state championship.
 
Winning a third state title in four seasons will depend once again on how well newcomers and returnees come together.
 

Pearl River Soccer Camp set for June 25-27

            POPLARVILLE --- The Pearl River Community College Soccer Camp for high school boys is set for June 25-27 (Thursday through Saturday) here on the PRCC campus.
            Wildcat head coach Paul Martin, who guided his squad to a third straight MACJC-Region 23 championship this past fall, said an impressive staff of coaches from William Carey University and Spring Hill College, as well as other professionally licensed personnel, will be on hand to work with players to advance their basic ball skills.
