Lee, Fortenberry named to women’s soccer All-Region 23 Team

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College sophomores Lyndsey Lee and Sarah Fortenberry were named to the NJCAA All-Region 23 Team, announced Thursday.

Lee, a midfielder from Picayune who played for Our Lady Academy, was the top vote-getter in polling of coaches in the MACJC/Region 23, with a record 104 points. Fortenberry, a former Forrest County AHS standout from Hattiesburg, was third in the voting with 77.

Pearl River soccer teams fall in NJCAA tournament action

PICAYUNE – The 2015 soccer season at Pearl River Community College came to a disappointing end Saturday, as both the men and women went down to defeat in the NJCAA National Tournament at Picayune Memorial Stadium.

The Lady Wildcats gave a game effort against the No. 1 team in the nation, but Eastern Florida State prove too much in a 4-1 victory in the NJCAA District H championship game. The Pearl River men also went down to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of San Jacinto, Texas, in the NJCAA South Regional semifinals.

Pearl River soccer teams host NJCAA regional competition at Picayune

POPLARVILLE – The Pearl River Community College soccer teams will face their biggest challenge of the season on Saturday when they host regional action in the NJCAA National Tournament at Picayune High School.
The Lady Wildcats will face Eastern Florida State in the District H championship game at 3 p.m. Saturday, and the Wildcats will battle San Jacinto, Texas in the semifinals of the South Region Tournament at 7 p.m.
The District H final is a rematch of last season’s district final, won by the Lady Titans 4-0.

PRCC to send eight players to MACJC All-Star Games

POPLARVILLE – Eight player from the Pearl River Community College soccer teams have been selected to play in the third annual MACJC Men’s and Women’s All-Star Game.
The games, presented by Holmes Community College, Mississippi Sports Medicine and Juco Weekly, will be played Nov. 14 at Freedom Ridge Park in Ridgeland. The women’s game kicks off at noon, with the men’s game to follow at 2:30 p.m.

PRCC trio earn MACJC weekly soccer honors

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College dominated the final weekly selections for MACJC Players of the Week, after the Lady Wildcats and Wildcats each won state titles this past weekend.
Freshman Kira Morrell of Laurel was named Women’s Player of the Week for her play in helping PRCC win a second consecutive MACJC/Region 23 title.
Sophomore Romar Smith of Gulfport was named Men’s Player of the Week and sophomore Michael Archbold of Ocean Springs was named Men’s Goalkeeper of the Week after the Wildcats won their fourth straight MACJC/Region 23 championship.

PRCC to host NJCAA Tournament soccer action this weekend

POPLARVILLE – This will be a busy weekend of soccer action coming up as Pearl River Community College will host early-round action in the NJCAA National Tournament.
Picayune Memorial High School will be the site of the women’s District H championship game between the Lady Wildcats and undefeated, No. 1-ranked Eastern Florida State, and the men’s South Region Tournament, featuring PRCC and three other teams.
The tournaments were moved to Picayune, which has a turf field at its stadium, in advance of a forecast for rain in the area this weekend.

Pearl River soccer teams repeat as MACJC state champions

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College refused to let difficult conditions stand in the way of another pair of soccer championships.
PRCC took two decisions in the championship games of the MACJC State Tournament, hosted by Hinds Community College, as both teams repeated as state champs.
The Lady Wildcats overcame heavy rain that turned the field at Tom Shepherd Field on the HCC campus at Raymond into a quagmire, defeating Jones County 3-1 in the women’s championship game

Pearl River soccer teams advance to MACJC State Tournament finals

RAYMOND – The Pearl River Community College soccer teams took radically different roads, but ultimately they got to the same destination Friday in the semifinals of the MACJC State Tournament at Tom Shepherd Field on the Hinds Community College campus.

The Lady Wildcats needed double overtime to take a dramatic 2-1 victory over East Central in their semifinal game, while the Wildcats cruised to a 5-1 triumph over Northwest Mississippi in their semifinal game.

PRCC soccer teams set to play in MACJC State Tournament semifinals Friday at Hinds

POPLARVILLE – The Pearl River Community College soccer teams will be back in action after a 10-day break on Friday in the MACJC State Tournament.
Tom Shepherd Field on the Hinds Community College campus at Raymond will be the site for all tournament games. The tournament was originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, but was moved up a day because of concerns about potential bad weather Saturday afternoon. The semifinals will be played Friday, with the championship games on Saturday.

Pearl River’s Gustafson named MACJC Player of the Week

POPLARVILLE – For the second week in a row, a member of the Pearl River Lady Wildcats soccer team has been named Offensive Player of the Week in the MACJC.
Sophomore midfielder Delaney Gustafson was named Women’s Offensive Player of the Week in voting this week by conference sports information departments.
Gustafson had four shots, including two on goal, and scored the game-winning goal just 20 seconds into the second overtime period to give PRCC a dramatic 2-1 victory over Jones County. The win clinched the South Division championship for the Lady Wildcats.
