POPLARVILLE --- Pearl River Community College men’s soccer standout Mike Allizzo has been named to the NJCAA All-Americian second team squad for the 2013 season, while also earning All-Region 23 honors for the second straight year.
RIDGELAND --- The South Division of the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges made history here Saturday at Freedom Ridge Park by winning both the first-ever men’s and women’s All-Star soccer matches over the North Division.
The South women shutout the North 2-0, while the South men were 2-1 winners.
POPLARVILLE --- The MACJC-Region 23 champion Pearl River Wildcats wrapped its 2013 soccer season with an 8-1 NJCAA South District loss to second-ranked and Region 14 champ San Jacinto here Friday in Wildcat Stadium.
PRCC, which repeated as state-regional champs last Sunday with a 1-0 victory over Hinds in Raymond, finished 13-2 overall, while San Jacinto College improved to 17-1.
RAYMOND --- Ray Wesson drilled a goal midway in the second half here Sunday to propel the Pearl River Community College Wildcats to a 1-0 victory over Hinds and a repeat as MACJC-Region 23 champions.
Wesson, a freshman forward out of Gulfport High, scored the men’s title bout’s only goal 28 minutes into the second half off an assist by his former prep teammate Austin Douglas.
The South division champ Wildcats trimmed Jones County 2-1 in Saturday’s semi-finals.
POPLARVILLE --- Pearl River Community College’s women’s and men’s soccer squads --- the reigning MACJC-Region 23 champions --- defend their prestigious titles this weekend in the MACJC-Region 23 Tournament set for Saturday and Sunday on Tom Shepherd Field on the campus of Hinds CC in Raymond.
The South No. 2 Lady Wildcats (13-2) face the North No. 1 Hinds Lady Eagles (6-8-2) in the semi-final round Saturday at 10:30 a.m., while the South No. 1 Wildcats (11-1) tackle South No. 2 Jones County (12-3-1) at 1 p.m.
POPLARVILLE --- The reigning MACJC-Region 23 champion Pearl River Community College Lady Wildcats shutout Northwest Mississippi 5-0 here Tuesday in the women’s MACJC-Region 23 quarter-final match and will race North champ and host Hinds Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the tournament semi-finals in Raymond.
MERIDIAN --- Pearl River Community College’s Wildcats clinched the MACJC South Division title here Tuesday with a convincing 8-1 victory over Meridian, while the Lady Wildcats secured second place in the division with their 1-0 nail biter over the host Lady Eagles.
PRCC’s women improved to 11-4 overall and 8-2 in division play, while its men are now 11-1 and 9-1.
RIDGELAND --- Holmes Community College, JucoWeekly, the Mississippi Army National Guard, and Mississippi Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center are teaming up to present the first-ever MACJC Men’s and Women’s All-Star Soccer Game.
The games are set for Saturday, Nov. 16, at Freedom Ridge Park in Ridgeland at 2 p.m. (women) and 4:30 p.m. (men).
POPLARVILLE --- Pearl River Community College swept arch-rival Jones County women’s and men’s MACJC South Division soccer action here Tuesday with the Lady Wildcats handing the 10th-ranked Lady Bobcats their first loss of the season with a 1-0 decision, while the Wildcats were 3-1 winners in the nightcap game.
PRCC’s women improved to 8-3 overall and 5-1 in division play, while its men are now 7-3 and 5-1. JCJC’s women dropped to 11-1 and 5-0, while its men are now 8-2-1 and 5-1.
