Pearl River Community College shook off a run-rule defeat to earn a split of an MACJC baseball doubleheader Saturday at Meridian.
Meridian built a 10-2 lead after two innings and coasted to a 14-4 win in seven innings in the opener, but the Wildcats rolled a 7-2 victory in the nightcap.
The split enabled PRCC (18-8 overall, 9-3 conference) to claim sole possession of second place in the conference standings. Meridian finished the day at 18-12 and 7-7.
After the Wildcats took the lead in the bottom of the first inning of the first game on Simon Landry’s two-run home run, the Eagles scored six runs in the bottom of the first and four more in the second. Landry added another two-run shot for Pearl River in the fourth inning.
Landry’s third homer of the day, a three-run bomb in the top of the seventh, helped PRCC pull away in the second game. The Wildcats scored three runs in the second to grab the lead and made it 4-0 in the fourth.
The Wildcats are back on the road to face Southwest at 3 p.m. Tuesday then travel to Mississippi Delta on Friday before returning to Wildcat Field on April 19 to face Hinds.
