Pearl River Community College drew closer to another playoff berth in women’s soccer Wednesday afternoon with a 3-0 victory over Southwest at Summit.
The Lady Wildcats improved to 7-5 overall and 5-3 in the South Division. Wednesday’s victory, coupled with Meridian’s 7-1 loss to Jones County on Tuesday, put PRCC one game ahead of the Lady Eagles in the division standings.
Pearl River can clinch third place in the division and a spot in the MACJC playoffs on Friday, when it hosts Meridian. The Lady Wildcats have a slim chance to finish second in the division, but they would need to win out and have Mississippi Gulf Coast lose its last two games of the season.
Freshman Lacey Polderman (Picayune) continued her hot play in recent games, scoring two goals against Southwest. Sophomore Jordan Ahlgren (Long Beach) had the other goal for the Lady Wildcats. Polderman leads the team with seven goals for the season.
Freshman Mellie Snyder (Leakesville) got her team-best ninth assist, and the Lady Wildcats also got assists from freshmen Abbi Henderson (Leakesville) and Kayla Nobles (Hurley). Southwest dropped to 2-13 and 1-7.
PRCC closes the regular season next Tuesday at Jones County.
