Wildcats, Lady Wildcats resume season Tuesday at home against Delgado

POPLARVILLE – The Pearl River Community College basketball teams return to the court after nearly a month off when they host Delgado (La.) on Tuesday.

Action at Marvin R. White Coliseum begins with the women’s game at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men’s game at approximately 7:30 p.m.

PRCC will have a pair of non-division games this week, including a home contest Thursday against Mississippi Delta, before getting back into South Division play next Monday at Hinds.

Wildcats muscle past Co-Lin; Lady Wildcats fall again

POPLARVILLE – Darryln Willis took over the game midway through the second half and carried Pearl River Community College to a 71-56 victory over Copiah-Lincoln in South Division action Monday night at M.R. White Coliseum.

However, the PRCC women dropped their seventh straight contest, falling to undefeated Co-Lin 66-41 in the final action of 2015 for Pearl River.

Willis, a Wichita State signee, scored a season-high 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Pearl River (6-3 overall, 2-0 in division). Teddy Scott added 15 points for PRCC.

Wildcats roll over Southwest; Lady Wildcats drop sixth straight

POPLARVILLE – Cortez Mitchell scored a season-high 24 points to lead Pearl River Community College to a 69-59 victory over Southwest Mississippi in the South Division opener for both teams Thursday night at Summit.

The Lady Wildcats, however, lost their sixth straight game as the Lady Bears used a big first half to win decisively 71-55.

Pearl River (5-3 overall, 1-0 division) opened up a 10-point lead in the first half, and enjoyed a 34-26 advantage at halftime.

Wildcats snap losing streak; Lady Wildcats lose heartbreaker at Baton Rouge

POPLARVILLE – The Pearl River Community College men’s basketball teams snapped a three-game losing streak Monday night, defeating Baton Rouge 62-56 at Baton Rouge, La.

The PRCC women, however, saw their losing string extend to five games in a heartbreaking 58-57 overtime defeat to the Lady Bears.

Pearl River (4-3) led the men’s game 30-22 at halftime, and extended the margin to double digits in the second half, before BRCC (3-9) rallied in the closing minutes. The Wildcats converted 7 of 10 foul shots in the second half to keep the Bears at bay.

Slumping Pearl River teams fall to East Mississippi

POPLARVILLE – The Pearl River Community College basketball teams have hit a rough stretch of road early in the season, as they each dropped games to East Mississippi Thursday night at M.R. White Coliseum.

The Lady Wildcats had plenty of opportunities in the fourth quarter, but fell short against the Lady Lions 46-44, as they dropped their fourth straight game after a season-opening win. The PRCC men lost their third straight game after a 3-0 start, 66-55 to the Lions, who remained undefeated.

Wildcats blast Baton Rouge 68-49; Lady Wildcats comeback falls short

POPLARVILLE – The Pearl River Community College men jumped out to a 14-0 lead to start the game and never looked back Monday night as the Wildcats routed Baton Rouge 68-49 in junior college basketball action at M.R. White Coliseum.

The news was not so good for the PRCC women, as a stirring fourth-quarter comeback fell short in a 70-64 loss to the Lady Bears.

The 12th-ranked Wildcats (3-0) showed their stuff right from the start as they overpowered the Bears with a strong start, then closed the first half with an equally-strong surge.

Wildcats rolls past William Carey JV 82-70

POPLARVILLE – The Pearl River Community College men’s basketball team used an 11-2 run early in the second half to seize command, and never looked back in an 82-70 victory over the Williams Carey junior varsity Thursday at M.R. White Coliseum.

The 12th-ranked Wildcats improved to 2-0 for the season, while the Crusaders dropped to 0-2.

Sophomore Darryln Willis had 17 points and 13 rebounds to lead PRCC. William Brown and Cortez Mitchell each had 14 points for the Wildcats.

PRCC sweeps season openers at Delgado

POPLARVILLE – The Pearl River Community College basketball teams made a successful debut of their 2015-16 seasons Monday night as they swept a pair of games from Delgado at New Orleans.

The 12th-ranked Wildcats had little trouble racing past the Dolphins 80-63, and the Lady Wildcats handed head coach Scotty Fletcher a victory in his first game as a head coach, defeating Delgado 61-52.

Sophomore Jamond Franklin led four Wildcats in double figures with 20 points. Darryln Willis added 17 points, Cortez Mitchell scored 13 and Dontellius Ross had 12 points.

Basketball Opens Season

POPLARVILLE – The Pearl River Community College basketball teams open the 2015-16 regular season on Monday against Delgado, La., at New Orleans.
The Wildcats return three starters and seven players total from last season’s 25-4 team that came within an overtime loss to Holmes of making it to the NJCAA National Tournament.
PRCC is the two-time defending MACJC State Tournament champions and come into the season ranked 12th in the nation in the NJCAA preseason rankings.
