River sweeps Holmes

            GOODMAN --- Pearl River Community College swept Holmes here Monday in women’s and men’s MACJC non-division basketball action with the Lady Wildcats pulling off a lopsided 64-39 victory, while the Wildcats were 76-71 winners.
            PRCC’s women improved their overall record to 2-1, while its men remain unbeaten at 5-0. Holmes’ women dropped to 1-5, while its men are now 4-2.
            In the women’s game, the Lady Wildcats led 37-23 at the intermission before outscoring the host Lady Bulldogs 27-16 in the second half to take the 25-point victory.

River splits at Delta

             MOORHEAD --- Pearl River Community College split with Mississippi Delta here Thursday in women’s and men’s MACJC non-division basketball action.
            The Lady Wildcats were nipped by the host Lady Trojans 66-64, while the Wildcats prevailed with a 66-54 victory. PRCC’s women evened their overall record to 1-1, while its men remain unbeaten at 4-0. Both MDCC squads dropped to 3-2.
            In the women’s game, Delta led 33-29 at the intermission, but Pearl River’s 35-33 scoring advantage in the second half wasn’t quite enough for victory.

Wildcat hoops trio signs D-1 pacts

           POPLARVILLE --- Three Pearl River Community College Wildcat basketball standouts signed scholarships with Division I schools here Thursday.
            Point guard DeAngelo Coleman of South Pike High signed with Southeastern Louisiana, guard-forward Rakeem Esco of Canton High with Louisiana-Monroe, and guard Jeremy Hollimon of Gulfport High with Troy State (Ala.).
            Coleman averaged 9 points per game and four assists a year ago for the MACJC state champion Wildcat squad, while Esco averaged eight points an outing and Hollimon 11.

Wildcats smack Crusader JV 81-54 in men’s hoops action

            POPLARVILLE --- For the second time in a week, Pearl River’s Wildcats crushed the William Carey University junior varsity squad 81-54 here Monday in Shivers Gymnasium.
            Ironically, the score of the two teams’ first meeting was practically identical as PRCC was an 81-53 winner Nov. 4.
            The River improved to 3-0 overall, while the Carey JV dropped to 0-5.

Pearl River sweeps Delgado

            POPLARVILLE --- Pearl River Community College swept Delgado (La.) in women’s and men’s basketball action here Thursday with a pair of dominating victories.
            The Lady Wildcats pulled off a 67-45 win in their season opener, while the Wildcats were 85-63 winners to improve to 2-0 overall. DCC’s squads both dropped to 0-2.

Wildcats smack Crusader JV 81-53 in hoops season opener

    POPLARVILLE --- Pearl River’s Wildcats crushed the William Carey University junior varsity squad 81-53 in their 2013 basketball season opener here Monday in Shivers Gymnasium.
    The lopsided defeated was also the opener for the visiting Crusaders.
    Pearl River dominated from the outset of the contest, building a 10-point lead at the 12:30 mark of the first half, then answering with a 5-0 run over the next three minutes to grab a 20-5 lead.

River hoops tips off Monday

            POPLARVILLE --- Pearl River Community College tips off its women and men’s 2013-2014 basketball seasons Monday with high expectations for both squads.
            The reigning MACJC state champ Wildcat squad entertains the William Carey Junior Varsity Crusaders at 6:30 p.m. here in Shivers Gymnasium, while the Lady Wildcats travel to Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi for a 7:15 p.m. match up.

2013 MACJC All-Star games set March 28 at East Central

            DECATUR — Mississippi’s top community and junior college basketball players will have an opportunity to showcase their talents at the annual MACJC All-Star Basketball Games (women and men) set for Thursday, March 28, here at East Central Community College.
            Women’s action begins at 6 p.m., while the men’s contest is set for 8 p.m. in the Brackeen-Wood Physical Education Building on the ECCC campus.
            Admission is $5 per person for the NJCAA-sanctioned event.

Pearl River’s Rimmer named All-Region 23, All-MACJC

            POPLARVILLE — Pearl River Community College guard Xavian Rimmer and center Frank Snow have received post-season honors for the 2012-2013 basketball season.
            Rimmer, a 6-foot-2, 185 pound Alcorn State transfer who prepped at Piney Woods School near Jackson; earned All-Region 23 and All-MACJC first-team honors; while Snow, a 6-foot-9 San Angelina CC (Tex.) transfer from Wellington, Fla., earned All-MACJC second-team accolades.
