Hankins named MACJC and NJCAA Division II Baseball Player of the Week

Carter HankinsPOPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College sophomore catcher Carter Hankins has been named as the MACJC Baseball Player of the Week for his play last week.

Hankins was 8 of 19 (.421) at the plate in six games last week, driving in 13 runs as the Wildcats were 5-1 in doubleheaders on consecutive days against Alabama Southern, Southwest Tennessee and Jackson State (Tenn.).

Wildcats begin busy weekend with doubleheader sweep at Alabama Southern

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College began its busiest weekend of the baseball season Thursday afternoon by sweeping a doubleheader against Alabama Southern at Monroeville, Ala.

The Wildcats eased past the Eagles 7-3 in the opener, then rolled to an 11-1 victory in the nightcap.

Gage Teer had a home run and drove in three runs in the first game, and Carter Hankins also went deep for the Wildcats. Jonathan Turner had a double and a single, and Austin Moffett also had a double.

PRCC baseball scores 30 runs in doubleheader sweep of Mineral Area

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River scored in every inning of both games, and completed its four-game season-opening weekend Saturday with at least one run in 16 straight innings in a doubleheader sweep of Mineral Area (Mo.).

The Wildcats won the opener 14-7 and took the nightcap 16-8.

In Saturday’s opener, Zacahry Clark drove in three runs with a double and two singles, Jonathan Turner had three RBIs on three singles and Austin Moffett also drive in three runs with a pair of singles. The Wildcats led 9-1 after four

PRCC baseball opens season with doubleheader split against Mineral Area

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College shook off a lop-sided defeat in its season opener, coming to gain a doubleheader split Friday against Mineral Area (Mo.) at Wildcat Stadium.

The Cardinals raked four Wildcat pitchers to win the opener 20-9, but PRCC returned the favor in the nightcap, pounding out 21 hits in a 14-4, eight-inning triumph.

Chase Urhahn got the hit parade started for Mineral Area leading off the first inning with a towering home run to right field, and the Cardinals added three more runs in the inning.

PRCC baseball, softball teams prepare for tough schedules

POPLARVILLE – Spring sports are right around the corner at Pearl River Community College, as the baseball and softball teams prepare for battle.

Coach Leigh White’s Lady Wildcats open an ambitious 47-game schedule on Feb. 1 with a Sunday doubleheader against Alabama Southern at Monroeville, Ala. PRCC then returns home on Feb. 5-6 to host the Wildcat Invitational. The Lady Wildcats will play LSU-Eunice and Calhoun, Ala., on Friday, and East Mississippi and Baton Rouge, La., on Saturday.

PRCC baseball adds nine players on signing day

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College has signed nine seniors for its 2017 baseball squad on the first official signing day for baseball and softball.

Of the nine signees, three come from Gulfport High, which is coached by former Wildcat head coach Jamie McMahon.

“I like this group,” said PRCC coach Josh Hoffpauir. “We are excited about their potential.”

Wildcats complete successful fall baseball season

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College has completed its fall baseball season, and heads into the offseason with plenty of confidence.

The Wildcats closed out fall play by sweeping a doubleheader this past Wednesday from Lawson State (Ala.), 9-2 and 3-2 at Pete Taylor Park on the Southern Miss campus. PRCC finished 7-0-1 for the fall.

“I’m pleased with the young guys,” said Wildcat coach Josh Hoffpauir. “Obviously, when you don’t lose a game, that’s a good thing. That gives you a positive vibe going into the spring.

Wildcats open fall season with pair of victories

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College opened its fall baseball season on Thursday with a pair of victories in action at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, La.

The Wildcats rolled to a 14-5 win over Bishop State (Ala.), then trounced Baton Rouge (La.) 11-4.

Sophomore first baseman Gage Teer was 3-for-5 in the two games, driving in six runs on a home run, a double and a single to lead the Wildcats at the plate.

Wildcats prepare for fall baseball season

POPLARVILLE – After a disastrous season this past spring, Pearl River Community College baseball coach Josh Hoffpauir hopes a positive attitude pays off in a big turnaround.

The Wildcats have been hard at work in offseason drills as they prepare for the 2015 fall exhibition season, which begins Oct. 1 with a doubleheader against Baton Rouge (La.) at Nicholls State University.

In all, PRCC will play six games in the month of October.
